Premier Doug Ford says Ontario could cut off fuel to the U.S. if president-elect Donald Trump makes good on a threat to impose steep tariffs on Canadian goods.

The premier of Canada's largest province said Wednesday he will cut off energy to the United States if President-elect Donald Trump imposes sweeping tariffs on all Canadian products. Trump has threatened to impose a 25% tax on all products entering the U.

He said Ontario is also preparing a list of tariffs that could be enacted if the U.S. follows through, including cutting off energy supply sent south of the border. Canada is the largest foreign supplier of crude oil to the United States.

After a first minister’s meeting late Wednesday, the premier struck a tougher tone over what he said is certain: crippling 25 per cent U.S. tariffs on all Canadian products that the president-elect will impose on his first day in office.
